Canadian Trademark Fees Increase for 2024

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has announced that they will be increasing most fees as of January 1, 2024, including fees related to filing and renewing trademarks. For most CIPO charges, this will result in fee increased in the range of 25%.

For example, the government fee to file a Canadian trademark application on or after January 1, 2024 will be $460 for the first class and $140 for each additional class, increasing from the 2023 fees of $350 for the first class and $105 for each additional class.

To minimize renewal costs, businesses are encouraged to renew any registrations prior to December 31, 2023 which are due or will become due for renewal prior to May 31, 2024 since registrations can be renewed up to 6 months before the renewal deadline.
